Give Way for the Olympics

Weirdly I don’t feel like it’s the real Olympics, otherwise I would be more excited. Why am I not excited about this? Well, actually it’s the very first Youth Olympics – held in Singapore, but I don’t see this featured in the world news. It’s as if, it is not happening. The recent signs on the highways, to give way for the Olympic contingent (vehicles with the Youth Olympic Games plates), reminded me that it’s coming. I checked it out and if you don’t give way you get a 130 Singapore dollar fine.

My sister told me there’s also a funny dance associated with it, but I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet since I sort of gave up watching too much TV and haven’t seen a Singapore advert in ages. And YouTube is down at the moment.

The most irritating thing is that Singapore has to give this an acronym and call it the YOG. Our Civil Service just loves acronyms. Like the Casinos and Resort World are known as IR to stand for Integrated Resorts. It annoys the heck out of me. Am I the only one out there who is annoyed by things like this?

Anyway, back to the Youth Olympics which will be held from August 5th to 26th, 2010. I am hoping there is some excitement after all. I love watching swimming, diving, gymnastics and track and field for the Olympics and usually get really excited when it’s on. This should be thrilling because these kids will be the future Olympians won’t they? I heard we did spend a whole lot of money on it.
