Tried out Penny University at East Coast Road (very near the famous hokkien mee and prawn mee soup) and I am eager to return for the coffee. The booth seats are pretty comfy and surprisingly not squeezy (they were generous about space when they built the seats). The crowd here is mostly young university age kids so I guess the name is apt. And I like the free iced water (although I’d prefer if they added the usual lemon instead of orange slices to it) and the down to earth owners as opposed to snooty ones elsewhere. It’s a non-intrusive environment where they let you be – I like that too. The lemon tart was light and all right but I’ve had better. I hope to try other items next time. It would be great if they had cake too, but I didn’t see any cakes that day.
