Checked out Loysel’s Toy since the place looked so inviting on this blog, this blog and this blog. But sadly when we got there, it was so crowded with no room for even standing. It was a tight squeeze as probably loads of people have heard about it and once that happens in Singapore you get a crowd. You felt like you were blocking the way as this cafe is just so tiny.
I loved the wall art and the location. It’s next to the river and a lush park (Kallang Riverside Park), where I saw people running and a group in their canoes. I was also awestruck by the huge old tree there. The other place I’ve seen trees this old was at Sembawang park. So majestic.
This place is not easy to get too. It’s quite tricky to find this place that’s really in hidden secret kind of location.
I find the name of the cafe so inventive. Loysel’s Toy because a man by the name of Loysel invented the first coffee press.
This is the second cafe by the team behind Papa Pahelta and they blogged about it here. Although Papa P would say they only sell beans and the coffee is for tasting.
These guys here really make good coffee. I had a cold flat white the last time I was there. I must say, that has yet to leave my head.
I must go on a weekday next time.
You didn’t have a cuppa when you were there?
I tried it at Papa P…very good!!
Your photos on this post totally made me miss Singapore!! Singapore is beautiful. It’s also sunny there. Jakarta is very close, but the atmosphere of the city is very different. I didn’t know that Loysel created the first coffee press! It looks lovely from outside. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Kaho 🙂 I haven’t been to Jakarta but when I was very young I visited Medan and Lake Toba and it was wonderful.
I didn’t know about Loysel either….love cool names like this.
I think the crowd will become more manageable in a few months time. When I went there, think just 1 week after it opened, there was hardly a soul. Coffee is pretty good, but I think Papa Palheta’s is better. Which is strange because the beans are supposed to be the same?
Anyway Papa Palheta doesn’t have a licence to be a cafe, dat’s why they only claim to be selling beans and payment for drinks is by donation.
I am missing the Papa P coffee. Oh so that’s the reason. I was thinking they could make loads selling the coffee which is better than Starbucks or Coffee Bean.
